چکیده

Molecular association of various aromatic hydrocarbons (D, including sterically hindered donors) with a representative group of diverse acceptors (A ) quinone, trinitrobenzene, tetracyanoethylene, tropylium, tetranitromethane, and nitrosonium) is visually apparent in solution by the spontaneous appearance of distinctive colors. Spectral (UV-vis) analyses of the colored solutions reveal their charge-transfer origin (λCT), and they provide quantitative information of the intermolecular association in the form of the KDA and !CT values for the formation and visualization, respectively, of different [D,A] complexes. Importantly, such measurements establish chargetransfer absorption to be a sensitive analytical tool for evaluating the steric inhibition of donor-acceptor association. For example, the steric differences among various hindered aromatic donors in their association with quinone are readily dramatized in their distinctive charge-transfer (color) absorptions and verified by X-ray crystallography of the charge-transfer crystals and/or QUANTA molecular modeling calculations of optimum intermolecular separations allowed by van der Waals contacts.

Spectroscopic Study of Charge Transfer Complexes of Dibenzo-24-crown-8 (DB24C8) with Iodine in Three Chlorinated Solvents

Charge Transfer (CT) complexes formed between dibenzo-24-crown-8 (DB24C8) as an electron donor with the σ-electron acceptor iodine (I2) in chloroform, dichloromethane, and 1,2-dichloroethane solutions have been studied by different spectroscopic techniques at room temperature. The spectral studies of the complexes were det...

Determination of Trimethoprim Based on Charge-Transfer Complexes Formation

A spectrophotometric study concerning the interaction between Trimethoprim (TMP) ,Sulfamethoxazole (SFMx), as n-donor and 2,3-dichloro-5,6- dicyano-P-benzoquinine (DDQ) and chloranilic acid (CA) as π-acceptor were been performed at 25°C. The results of interaction of CA and DDQwith TMP indicate the formation of a 1:1, 1:2, charge transfer complexes through non equilibrium reactions. In the case...

Spectroscopic Studies on Charge-Transfer Complexation of Iodine with Dibenzo-15-crown-5 and Benzo-12-crown-4 in Chloroform, Dichloromethane and 1,2-Dichloroethane

The formation of charge-transfer complexation between dibenzo-15-crown-5 (DB15C5) and benzo-12-crown-4 (B12C4) (Donor) and iodine is investigated spectrophotometrically in three chlorinated solvents, chloroform, dichloromethane (DCM) and 1,2-dichloroethane (DCE) solution at 25°C. The change in polarityof the solvent also doesn’t affect the stoichiometry of the complexes. Values of formation cons...

Folding of alternating dialkylsilylene-spaced donor-acceptor copolymers: the oligomer approach.

A series of oligmers with donor-acceptor pairs separated by diisopropylsilylene (iPr(2)Si) spacers, composed of monomer 4b, dimer 5, trimer 6, and tetramer 7, were synthesized to scrutinize the folding behavior. Monomer 4a with a dimethylsilylene (Me(2)Si) spacer was also prepared for comparison. The 4-aminostyrene moiety was used as the donor and the stilbene moiety as the acceptor. Both stead...

Charge-transfer excitation of molecular complexes in organic and organometallic chemistry

Electron donor-acceptor or EDA complexes are common precursors leading to a variety of organic and organometallic reactions, as indicated by the ubiquitous appearance of characteristic charge-transfer absorption bands. Structural effects of HOMO-LUMO interactions extant in donor-acceptor pairs, established by X-ray crystallography, are critical to the charge-tranfer excitation of various types ...
